Solar Hot Water

Solar Hot Water: How Does It Work?

Solar hot water systems collect the short waves of energy from the sunlight and convert them to long wave waves which produce heat.  A solar collector is mounted on or near your home facing south.  Sunlight passes through glass vacuum tubes.  The material takes the sunlight and converts it to long wave heat.   This heat energy is transferred from the collector  to a water storage tank by flowing through a transfer liquid.

Solar How Water: How Does It Help?

Environmentally speaking solar hot water systems are very beneficial.  Analysts believe that if half of all households used solar water heaters the reduction in CO2 emissions would be the same as doubling the fuel efficiency of all cars, drastically reducing the country’s carbon imprint.  Solar hot water systems also create a great economic advantage.  Solar water heaters generally pay for themselves within four to eight years, essentially leaving you with zero hot water costs for years to come.  In addition, the U.S. began offering homeowners tax credits of up to 30% (capped at $2,000) of the cost of installation.  A solar water heater is a reasonable solution when deciding the most sensible way to provide hot water.  Not only is it a tremendous help environmentally, but also a economic relief.
